Francis Bacon

Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion c.1944
The medium that Francis Bacon used is oil paint and pastel on all the three boards. This piece called triptych because it has 3 different boards and fitting it together. The size of the three studies for figures at the base if a crucifixion is 74Cm x 94Cm. This is painting was made in 1944 in London, around the same time when the World War 2 was about to ended.
Francis Bacon was born in October 28, 1909 in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. He lived in London. He died April 28, 1992, in Madrid, Spain. This is piece is a portrait because it is showing something. He think that this piece he was about Greek myth. The tittle tell you that it is three piece. The board is smooth making it easy to paint on. This painting was first exhibited in 1945.

The atmosphere in this piece makes me feel like it was the dark times in that in that time because of the war going on and they don’t know when the war is going to end.
